The phrase "He Ao Hou i Ōtepoti ki te Raki" in te reo Māori translates to "a new world for North Dunedin." Its origins can be traced back to the organic and natural process that unfolded during discussions within the Te Rōpu Manaaki bilingual te reo Māori class at North East Valley Normal School.

In this class, ākonga embarked on a collective exploration of ideas aimed at enhancing their hapori - community. It was during these kōrero that one insightful tamariki shared a thought-provoking idea, likening their endeavour to imagining a new world. This spark of inspiration ignited a sense of possibility among the students, ultimately leading to the birth of the concept and name "a new world for North Dunedin."
